CLSS Studio explores the human condition using portraits that aren’t created as a representation of a person, but are more concerned with our psychological terrain. Combining Channing Smithson’s 20+ years in the medical field along with Leah Smithson’s interdisciplinary art background, their work examines natural phenomena, nature, including the human body itself, and how it intertwines with technology and the world around us. They use a unique blend of traditional mediums, i.e. painting, ceramics, sculpture, and recently Land Art, along with various new media (architectural projection, XR, and 3D animation). Together, they’ve exhibited their work across the US and internationally, collaborating with major brands, such as Apple, on public art installations, and have been featured in prestigious programs like NEW INC and prominent media outlets like the Los Angeles Times.
