Gabriel Massan
GABRIEL MASSAN (b. 1996, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice integrates storytelling and worldbuilding to examine inequality within the Latin American experience. Through a conceptual approach termed "fictional archaeology," he uses 3D animation, digital sculpture, games, and interactive installations to challenge narratives about the so-called "Third World" and explore subversive otherness.
Since 2017, Massan has received major commissions from Geneva Public Art Program MIRE (2024), Serpentine Art Technologies (2021-2023), Madonna’s The Celebration Tour (2023) and Apple Inc. (2021). The artist has held critically acclaimed solo exhibitions at BOZAR (2025), Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (2024), Outernet Arts (2023) and Serpentine Galleries (2023). In 2024, he won the Award of Distinction at the Ars Electronica Prize. His work has been exhibited at leading institutions, including Centre Pompidou-Metz, The Photographers' Gallery, Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, CIRCA, Instituto Moreira Salles, and the Julia Stoschek Foundation.
