Shirt was born and raised in New York City, with family roots in the Dominican Republic and Cyprus. He works across rap music, sculpture, painting, video, photography, clothing, and performance, often using materials close at hand. His practice operates across forms and contexts, with an emphasis on encounter. He has presented work nationally and internationally, including at MIT, Cambridge; Triple Canopy, New York; Dia Chelsea, New York; The Kitchen, New York; Baltimore Museum of Art, Baltimore; Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt; Royal College of Art, London; and Helmhaus Museum, Zurich. He holds an MFA from the Academy of Art and Design FHNW in Basel and a GED from the New York State Education Department. As a 2022 guest artist engaging the Picture Collection at the New York Public Library, he advocated for the creation of a new folder in the archive dedicated to Hip-Hop. He has been an artist-in-residence at Civitella Ranieri and Abrons Arts Center, and a 2024–25 New City Critics Fellow with the Architectural League of New York and Urban Design Forum. He is co-founder and Artistic Director of Facade Foundation, a nonprofit that collaborates with artists to produce public artworks at active construction sites across New York City.
