Onassis ONX brings together artists, scientists, and legal minds working at the edges of simulation and appropriation. Studio DEMO x Onassis ONX conversations consider who gets to model the world, and who gets to claim it.
This conversation considers computation, ecology, and the politics of who gets to simulate the planet. Artist Theo Triantafyllidis builds living digital ecosystems that respond to real-time climate data. Researcher Dr. Holly Jean Buck studies how the public imagines planetary-scale intervention. Together, they explore where artistic simulation and scientific modeling overlap. What can art and science learn from each other's world-building tools? How do game engines and climate models construct speculative futures? And what happens when those futures feel more tangible than the present?
Studio DEMO is a live broadcast hub at the New Museum, open to drop into throughout the day and available via livestream. Featuring NEW INC's wider creative community, broadcasts take the form of talks, demonstrations, couch conversations, panel discussions, DJ sets, and more. This year, NEW INC partners with peer organizations to build thematic programming for Studio DEMO. Partners include Geidai Project, Onassis Foundation, Rhizome, Serpentine, YoungArts.
